Detailed description of Camarillo Springs Golf Course

Camarillo Springs Golf Course, is a Public, 18 hole golf course located in Camarillo, California.

Camarillo Springs Golf Course first opened for play in 1970. The course was designed by Ted Robinson. The Springs Golf Course was redesigned by Garrett Gill and George B. Williams during the late 1980's.

Camarillo Springs gets its name from the beautiful water features on the course. You'll enjoy gentle ocean breezes as you make your way around the course, especially during the hot months when Camarillo is typically 10-15 degrees cooler than Los Angeles, the San Fernando Valley, or even Simi Valley and Thousand Oaks. The course is nestled at the base of Conejo Mountain in Camarillo, California and lies just 45 miles north of Los Angeles and 45 miles south of Santa Barbara, just off the 101 freeway. Cut in and around the towering rock formations of the mountain. Par for the course is 72.

Black tees: 6,921 yards, course rating 73.3, slope rating 134.

This course offers a good challenge and reward round for a good price. You will find the staff pleasant and personable and the breakfast burritos great.

I previously played here weekly but moved to another course last year. The new owner (3 years ago) really improved the conditions of the greens and fairways. It plays windy in the afternoons. Can be a 5 hour round.

The course is in HORRIBLE condition. The greens have tacky patches that have not been repaired, the aprons are either bare or not mowed, the fairways are a combination of raw dirt and crabgrass. The only attention to detail is an inordinate # of staked areas where no repair work has been done. I recommend that you steer clear of this course until some significant work is done and it becomes playable.

Would travel: 0-10 Miles, Not Vacation Worthy
Bottom line: Worse than average course for the area

Camarillo Springs is my home course. It is not an upscale venue. It is a sleepy little course tucked into a coastal valley surrounded by the Santa Monica mountains. This relatively short course now has 3 different tee boxes playing nearly 7000 yds from the black and about 6000 from the whites. The somewhat small greens are Poa. Most of the par 3's are challenging with water in play on two. The greens are well maintained, some fairways and tee boxes still need work, they are works in progress. Staff is pleasant and helpful. The price is right, there are a lot of older people and slower golfers at this course, typically pace of play is 4 1/2 hours, I'd say about average for SoCal. I like Camarillo Springs for two reasons. It presents kind of an open look to the golfer (not alot of trees). Secondly, the temperature is generally cool during the hot summer months.
